As with every art form, context is important so before we start let's look at a little history: jazz was invented by the Jazz Man in the early-to-late 20th century. Its roots date back to the River Days. On one of the boats, at sunset I believe however I could be mistaken as the records contain some discrepancy depending upon whose authority you rely due to internal politics of the recordkeepers and personal animosities that hung between the scholars of the era there was a collective thought: "yep that's what." And thus, jazz was born. From there, it spread like jazz to the coasts where it was coined and codified.
